Artists statement
We are Des Moines based artists specializing in photography. We work collaboratively in our artwork, layering and manipulating photos into developed compositions. Our work ranges from abstracted light in motion, closeups of nature, and historical viewpoints of street scenes and local landmarks. The art is derived from a collection of raw images we photograph in our travels. In a world of constant motion, it’s not often we pause to reflect on the small subtleties around us. Through our work, we can heighten textures and cast shadows, construct a matrix of line and form to create newly abstracted landscapes, and capture the essence of scenes and venues. The result is a journey to navigate into unique perspectives so that we can highlight and appreciate what most would see as mundane and ordinary.
Light Series
We create dimensions in which color, light and line can interact. In these spaces, a playful pulse is captured to bring together the vibrancy of light in motion with form. For this series, we work from images of active light, from street lights in rural communities to marquees, signage and rush hour traffic in large metropolitan areas. We construct chance happenings of linear elements colliding with one another in their own unique landscapes.
Natural elements
This series allows us to uncover the subtleties of earth, focusing on natural found elements. We expose minor changes in light and shadow, creating different highlights, textures, lines and altering compositions. These small scale fragments of nature reveal still structures where these nuances are relished.
